Acidity and Enamel
Blog
Before
After
An acidic diet can be detrimental to enamel. Over time, significant tooth enamel can be lost and the teeth can become sensitive and prone to chipping and wear. Prevention is the key! Knowing that the effects of an acidic diet are cumulative in that it is usually not the one food item that is the culprit but the combination of acidic foods throughout the day. Please speak with us if you are concerned about acid erosion. In this example, the acid erosion is evident on the front surfaces of the two front teeth. We used bonding to restore the teeth back to their original contours. Grinding is also an issue for this patient. We will get him wearing a night guard and then restore the two lateral incisors that have been shortened from grinding. There is nothing that makes us happier than getting our patients to smile!
