Our patient was not entirely thrilled with result from her Smile Direct treatment. There is no doubt that those of us who provide orthodontic treatment would never finish a case as we see here. ⁣
⁣
Thankfully, meeting the aesthetic expectations of this absolutely lovely patient was entirely possible with bonding. This is an example of additive dentistry to provide better contours, close spaces and thus achieve a pleasing smile. ⁣
⁣
I must admit that this was a lucky situation where the patient’s occlusion (bite) and the position of the teeth allowed a conservative solution with bonding. This is not always the case. ⁣
⁣
In the end, I was honoured to be the “live” dentist and to be of service to my patient. There are some things that just do not lend themselves to being virtual. The relationship between healthcare provider and patient is definitely one of them. ⁣

The change to the smile here is subtle. With conservative bonding, we have levelled the edges of the two front teeth. To optimize smile aesthetics, it is important that these teeth are as symmetrical as possible. A small amount of bonding was also added to the other teeth in the smile on the patient’s right side to mimic the contours of the left side. With bonding, the entire procedure is conservative, painless and usually requires only one appointment. Our patient is thrilled with the change to her smile!

In this example, we restored a chipped central incisor, closed the space between the left lateral and central incisors and lengthened the right lateral incisor.
